President’s Perspective

Mary Lou Davis, Chapter President

This has been a busy election cycle for our League registering and educating voters through numerous community events. This included Washburn University events and area high school presentations assisting students registering to vote. Additionally, over 1,000 postcards were sent encouraging women to voice their power through their vote.

These efforts could not be accomplished without dedicated League volunteers who want to make a difference in our Shawnee County communities. Thank you to each volunteer who gave their time and talent!

Board Member Spotlight: Glennie Buckley

Tell us a bit about yourself:
I graduated from Washburn University with both a bachelors and masters degree and also earned an Ed.D. from Kansas State University. I’ve worked in USD 501 as a teacher and administrator and taught at Washburn University.
How did you get involved in the League of Women Voters?
Patty Pressman urged me to join the LWV, and I am so glad I did. I have learned so much about voting and our democracy. I found being involved is a real benefit. Currently, I serve as the Tuesday Topics Facilitator and invite speakers for our monthly Tuesday Topics meetings. Speakers inform us on many topics from politics to recycling to history.  Speakers often show video clips and use PowerPoints to make it easier to follow their information.
What do you like to read?
I love mystery books, especially those by David Rosenfelt, Rita Mae Brown, Miranda James, and MJ Van Buren.
What’s a fun fact about you?
My computer hates me. The feeling is mutual! I am technology challenged and rely on help from Lissa Staley and others.
